Research AssistantshipsEach year I accept approximately five students to work as research assistants (for academic credit or on a volunteer basis) in my lab. Students have typically already taken Social Psychology and Research Methods, although in certain cases lab members may start working on a volunteer basis before being enrolled in these courses.
Expectations Student research assistants are expected to attend regular lab meetings, maintain frequent contact with me and other research assistants, have a working knowledge of SPSS, and be available for data collection and entry. Independent Research
Students who are interested in conducting independent social psychological research can speak to me about registering for a 1-3 credit independent research course. I accept approximately two Independent Research students per year. Students typically complete independent research during their Senior year, although students who have taken Research Methods early may also conduct independent research during their Junior year. Depending on the project, students are expected to meet with me once a week and follow a syllabus timeline for project completion. In general, the Independent Research course is available in fall and spring semesters, although I am sometimes open to the summer semester depending on the scope of the project.

Letters of Recommendation
I will happily write letters of recommendation for students who have taken multiple courses with me and/or worked with me in some capacity. If you would like me to be one of your references, please ask me at least a month in advance of when the first letters are due. If I feel that I can write a strong letter for you I will ask for the following things:
1. A clear list of schools/jobs for which you are applying. Include deadlines for each institution and whether it is an electronic application or paper. 2. If I need to complete a paper reference, include all necessary forms as well as stamped and addressed envelopes. 3. For graduate school references, please provide information about each program. That is, which faculty members you would like to work with, the type of program, and why you are interested in each particular program. 4. A recap of the courses (including grades) and work you have done with me. 5. A detailed CV (Curriculum Vitae). If you are not sure how to write a CV [academic resume], you can speak with me or the Office of Career Development. Please see the sample CV below.

Teaching Assistantships
I welcome Teaching Assistants for Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, and Social Psychology. Students must be Psychology majors, typically with Senior standing. I prefer students to have taken these courses with me previously, and the Research Methods TA will also TA Statistics. Students receive 1-3 credits depending on their level of involvement. TAs are expected to meet with me on a regular basis, help with basic grading, and if interested, leading TA sessions and conducting a lecture of their own. I accept TAs in the fall and spring semesters depending on my course load.
If interested in any of these opportunities, please contact me via email or in person. |
